Over 1,000 years ago, there lived a race called the "winged beings." They were persecuted by the regular humans, kept locked up in reinforced cages and never allowed to see the sunlight they so were inclined to fly in. A young girl named Kanna was the last of one. She grew weary of her cage, and wished so dearly to see her mother. A chance occurrence let her break free, and she traveled for several weeks to see her mother, with a bodyguard and nursemaid. When she arrived at her mother's own prison, however, she was shocked to see her own mother in a state of peril. Soon after, Kanna's mother died. Kanna and her group was eventually hunted down, and while Kanna herself tried to take off and fly away, she was shot down by cursed arrows, dying on the ground in the arms of her companions.
Through the centuries, Kanna's soul reincarnated countless times, each of her incarnations affected by the curses placed on her original soul by her captors, that she would never be able to find love of any kind. On top of that, the soul of a winged being was too large and powerful for a human body--all are fated to die young. Misuzu Kamio was the last incarnation of the winged beings, and unfortunately both the curse and the physical ailments from her soul did not skip her.
From a young age, Misuzu's "mysterious illness" plagued her in many ways. Her own mother died very young, and she was sent out to live with her Aunt Haruko, in the beachside town of Kami.
Personality:
What one first tends to notice about Misuzu is her smile. That being her cheerfulness. Despite suffering from a life-threatening illness and millennium-old curse, she almost always is smiling. She is by default very cheerful and optimistic, greatly clashing with the knowledge of her constantly being sick and near-death. Perhaps it was the illness itself that made her optimistic, but it shines through regardless. It's only around the series' protagonist, Yukito, that she is outgoing, however. Around her other classmates, she tends to be shy and withdrawn, from the teasing and isolation she previously endured, and she often has to give herself pep talks just to allow herself to speak up to them. It doesn't stop her, however, from deeply wanting to have many friends.
What's not immediately apparent, though, is that Misuzu is extremely childish. Due to her curse, she tends to cry when she thinks she's made a friend, causing her to be somewhat socially inept. She doesn't exactly know a lot of social standards, making her very awkward to interact with for others of her age group. She tends to pout and hold things in rather than speaking about her problems. Misuzu tends to have an extremely short attention span, following after "interesting" things regardless of what had been happening before. She's fond of uttering the nonsensical word "gao", meant to be the roar of a dinosaur, when upset, despite Haruko's constant scolding to not to. Dinosaurs seem to be her favorite in general--she has pajamas printed with them, has several stuffed animals of them littering her bed, and generally seems to take solace in them when she is upset.
And Misuzu is clumsy. Yes, this is big enough of a trait to count. She's constantly tripping over her own two feet, and seemingly gliding around, performing twirls and spinning.
Misuzu Kamio is a dreamer. She talks about her dinosaurs as though they are gods of another realm, figures she worships but will never meet. Although her merchandise tends to make them cute and cuddly, she does recognize how fearsome they are, and that influences her view of them like elegant beasts. Her love of dinosaurs seem to clash with her love of the sky, which is just as great. Perhaps it is the influence of her winged maiden incarnation, but Misuzu's dream is to fly. Not in an airplane, no--she wants wings. To fly away like a bird. And despite it being an impossible dream (seemingly), she does not give up.
At the end of the series, though, she changes. Only a minute bit, but it's noticeable. she grows to accept Haruko as her true mother, and for that, several of her issues dissolve. Kanna's desire to reunite with her own mother is finally resolved, with Misuzu finding her own. And with loving Haruko as her mother, Misuzu was finally able to "find love of [some] kind". Her heart grows peaceful and less frantic. Snd for the first time in 1,000 years, Misuzu can rest.
Strengths:
➝PHYSICAL: Nothing of large notice, seeing as Misuzu's illness effects her negatively. See the weaknesses section for further extrapolation. Although, as stated in her personality, she can sometimes be extremely light on her feet, doing twirls and always spinning around.
➝ MENTAL: For a younger girl with a deathly illness, Misuzu is quite positive. She obviously does not like having to constantly see the doctor, but she always tries to keep her chin up and face the future. Even when she fails, she is not a sore loser, and always tries her best, even when it's clear she can't really manage any better.
➝EMOTIONAL: Misuzu is very, very friendly. If it were not for her illness, she would probably have many friends. Aside from it, it's very easy to get along with her, and she's extremely caring about those she is close to. She's almost always happy, to a fault.
Weaknesses:
➝ PHYSICAL: Misuzu is canonically very physically frail. She holds almost no muscle strength and something akin to a breeze could probably knock her over, plus a large amount of regular crippling bodily pain. However, as she is coming into the game after her death, after her curse has been lifted, this will be less of a problem for her. The specific physical weaknesses caused by her illness will not affect her, rather she will only be frail from her own lack of exercise/previous time indoors, and she'll be able to get healthy if she wants to + hard work.
➝ MENTAL: She is not exactly the brightest bulb you've ever seen. She tends to be childish and naive to the extreme, and can be easily tricked/fooled. Additionally, she has not attended school very often due to her illness, so her book smarts aren't very super either.
➝ EMOTIONAL: Another facet of Misuzu's curse is her "inability" to find love of any kind. In life, this manifested as her becoming upset and crying when she believed she had made a friend, and her disease noticeably worsened when she fell in love with the protagonist, Yukito. Although she is friendly, she doesn't seem to know proper social greetings and behaviors, which can make her seem extremely off-putting.

First Person:
Hello....? Is this thing working? I'm not good with technology at all...[poking a finger in the feed view, leaving a noticeable smudge] I...where am I? What's with the wings? Is this a joke, about me and Kanna and the winged beings? It's not a very nice joke at all...
[gulping, looking like she's going to cry] I-I...a lot of us died, you know. Because of it. If this is all just a-a joke...
[a pause. she seems to seriously consider her surroundings for a moment.] This isn't....heaven, is it? I mean, we have wings...will I get to see my birth mother? I never really knew her all that good.
...Yukito? Are you here? Is this where you went? ....I miss you.
Third Person:
It was a strange, strange feeling. She expected heaven to look stereotypical--puffy clouds, shining golden gates, warm light all around her. But wherever she was had none of those elements. It felt cold and snowy, and she saw only the greens of trees above her. At least the wings were there. She always read books where angels has fluffy white wings, and there they were, plopped on her back.
Misuzu sat up, rubbing her eyes. Her back ached, and she put a hand up to touch the wings. Why did they hurt? Things in heaven weren't supposed to hurt. Everything was supposed to be calm and peaceful...But heaven wasn't supposed to be full of snow, either. She felt lucky that her dress was down to her ankles, and that she was wearing her school shoes and socks. She pulled them up as high as she could while she got to her feet.
It was weird. She didn't feel weak. Although her hair was still short like she remembered it. Same as normal. Except she was actually able to stand on her own. Wasn't she using a wheelchair before...? Luckily the snow wasn't deep, so she tried taking a step. Her legs worked perfectly fine. Maybe it was just another working aspect of heaven. Where everything was fixed, where everything was right.
Misuzu took a few more steps, her arms out to the sides to balance herself. It was only then she noticed the snow softly piling on her arms. She drew them close to her chest and shivered. She had to get inside somewhere. If there even were any houses in heaven. But the angels wouldn't get left out in the cold, would they? No, they couldn't. It was heaven, afterall.
But then she started to wonder about frostbite. She couldn't die twice. ...could she? Could people die in heaven? Was there some sort of system where you could or couldn't die once you were already dead? She could get cold. She felt cold. The snow everywhere was cold.
Her mind soon snapped back to the present. No, there was something more important than herself. Someone more important. Two someones more important.
Her mother. And Yukito.
Where were they? They weren't here, where they? They weren't dead...they couldn't be. Unless Yukito really did die. Maybe that meant she could see him again. She suddenly felt selfish. She shouldn't have thought that. No, just because she died, Yukito had to. He left. Of his own will. He had bigger and better things to accomplish. She just wasn't part of it.
And yet still she wished to see him. Heaven was magic, wasn't it?
